stair-slideIf you’re a young kid or a lazy adult, this is something you may want to beg for or tack onto your next renovation project: the staircase slide. It’s basically a slide that parallels a staircase, giving users the option to go old-fashioned and walk down the stairs….or SLIDE down! I think I’ll go for the latter, but it’s too bad you can’t slide up. Credit goes to London architect Alex Michaelis for this genious design.

I’m happy to announce the recent launch of icseniorweek.com. This site is the central hub for everything related to Ithaca College’s Senior Week for the Class of 2009.

Thanks to my friend Shane Pisko introducing me to WordPress.org, icseniorweek.com is based on WordPress 2.7.1 and includes some pretty neat features. One of my favorite features is the EasySMS plugin and widget. This easy-to-use widget allows users to sign-up for free text message updates (standard carrier charges may apply). The main purpose for this is to send out text message blasts each day of Senior Week to remind attending seniors of the daily event(s). When developing the site, we figured that most seniors will be out and about enjoying Senior Week and that the easiest way to reach them is via their mobile phones.

Other neat features includes a randomized color palette that changes with each page redirect or refresh, a widget (ICS Calendar) synced to the Senior Class’s Google Calendar, and just the overall architecture of WordPress.

An App for Font Newbies

…Just kidding, well kind of. Check out this neat iPhone application that allows users to identify a font by simply taking a picture. Pretty neat for geeks like me that are way into typefaces.

More Coming Soon!

February 23, 2009

To the four people who actually read this blog, my apologies for the lack of posts in the past few days. It’s been a busy week/weekend, but I will assure you that I haven’t given up on this blog (besides the HW assignments). Tomorrow will be another busy day, but I’m hoping to bang out a few more articles in between the many meetings I will have.

Pictures from MPMS

February 9, 2009

Looking at these, I realized I didn’t take many pictures during the MPMS program. If I can get my hands on those from Hannah or Scott, I’ll try to post them. These pictures are from the “Building Bridges Luncheon” where awards were presented, and our industry immersion at DraftFCB New York.

Some of you may know this already, but this past week I was in New York City attending the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF’s) Most Promising Minority Student program. As one of the 40 selected recipients of this award, I was flown down to the city to attend a three-day program.

The program inluded seminars, industry immersions and even a career expo all to help us get started in the advertising industry. I had the chance to talk to recruiters from Arnold, DDB, Deutsch, BBDO, Publicis, Ogilvy, Saatchi & Saatchi, MediaVest, ESPN and so many more. This was a really exciting program as I got to meet so many great people in the industry and get a chance to network. I also made some new friends as well as saw some old friends from the summer. It seemed like almost half of the receipients were MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Intern Program) Alum.

The program ended with everyone watching “In The Heights” on Broadway, which was all paid for by the Publicis Groupe. Congratulations to all the recipients including those on the Honor Roll, and congratulations to Joe Rockhill (Ithaca College alum) who received the AAF MPMS Alumni Rising Star Award. Many thanks to everyone from the AAF, as well as the program sponsors, recruiters, and everyone else who made this a really enjoyable experience. Check back for pictures.
